8.5. Check of system of a charge

If at inclusion of ignition the alarm lamp of ignition / charging does not join, at first check reliability of fastening of electric connections of the generator. If electric connections as it should be, check whether the alarm lamp fused and whether reliably it (lamp) is established in the boss in an instrument guard. If the lamp still does not light up, check whether there is no break in the feeding wire of an alarm lamp going from the generator to the boss of a lamp. If the wire as it should be, has to be faulty the generator. At the same time the generator has to be delivered in a workshop on repair of electric equipment of the car for repair or replacement.

If the alarm lamp remains included after start of the engine, stop the engine. Check whether the driving belt is damaged and whether its tension is correctly established (The head Routine maintenance), also check whether contacts of the generator are reliably fixed. If everything is all right, check brushes and contact rings of the generator (The section Survey and replacement of the regulator and brushes the generator). At failure detection in the generator the generator has to be delivered in a workshop on repair of electric equipment of the car for repair or replacement.

If there is a suspicion on the insufficient output power of the generator in spite of the fact that the alarm lamp works normally, then tension regulator as follows can be checked.

Connect the voltmeter to battery plugs and start the engine.

Increase engine turns until indications of the voltmeter are not established; indications have to be equal about 12-13 V and no more than 14 Century.

Include, it is as much as possible electroconsumers (headlights, heater of back glass, heater fan, etc.) and check whether the established tension around 13-14 Century gives the generator.

If tension does not keep, then malfunction can be caused, first of all, by wear of brushes, weakening of clamping springs of brushes, malfunction of the regulator of tension, malfunction of the diode, separation of a phase winding, either wear or damage of contact rings. Brushes and contact rings can be easily checked (The section Survey and replacement of the regulator and brushes of the generator) , however, if malfunction remains, despite good shape of brushes and contact rings, the generator has to be delivered in a workshop on repair of electric equipment of the car or is replaced.
