4.1.8. Removal, survey and installation of a cam-shaft (cam-shafts) and hydraulic pushers of valves

The procedure of removal and installation described below to the place of cam-shafts and hydraulic pushers assumes that the head of cylinders is not removed from the engine. In case for any other reasons removal of a head of cylinders is required, then work can be performed on a workbench, in this case it is necessary to begin work, with the procedure described in §12 after removal of a head of cylinders.

Removal

In internal bolts of covers of bearings of cam-shafts (it is specified by an arrow) there are openings for supply of oil in hydraulic pushers of valves


Location (it is specified by shooters) internal bolts of covers of bearings of the cam-shafts having in themselves drillings for oil supply (bolts have black heads)


The hydraulic pusher taken from a cylinder head. After extraction the pusher has to be placed in an oil bathtub


 REMOVAL

1. Open a cowl and clear the engine around a head of cylinders.
2. Cock the emergency brake and a poddomkratta the car in front and behind, having established it on axial props (address Poddomkrachivaniye's Section, towage and change of wheels). Remove the right forward wheel.
3. Give bolts and take a molding of a forward wheel and a loker of an arch of a wheel from under the right forward wing.
4. Disconnect a negative wire of the battery, having removed a wire far away from the battery plug.
5. Disconnect a hose of a sapun of a case (and where is available, a hose of the block of vacuum management), and shift them aside.
6. Give screws and remove a viewing cover or the block of ignition of system of direct ignition from the central part of a cover of a head of cylinders (if necessary see the Head Sistemy of start and a charge).
7. Where are available, disconnect high-voltage wires from spark plugs.
8. Where is available, remove the distributor (see the Head Sistemy of start and a charge) and remove it aside.
9. Otboltite also uncover a head of cylinders, also remove specially split rubber traffic jams or the combined ring. If the cover stuck, slightly clap on it a palm for release.
10. By means of the face key which is put on a bolt a crankshaft pulley turn the engine until a tag of the top dead point (TDP) of a flywheel / the driving disk does not coincide with a distributive tag on the case of transmission and the N1 piston (the next to a distributive chain) does not appear in the top point of a step of compression. On late models combine dredging on a crankshaft pulley with a scale tag on a cover of a distributive chain. If necessary additional information see in the Section Provision of the Top Dead Point (TDP) of the 1st Piston. Make sure also that tags of the top dead point on the ends of cam-shafts on which asterisks put on coincided with the corresponding tags of the top dead point on covers of bearings of cam-shafts.
11. Unscrew and remove a natyazhitel of a distributive chain from a back part of a head of cylinders.
12. Holding each cam-shaft permanently from rotation by means of the wrench which is put on special facets on the ends of the cam-shafts turned to a flywheel / to a driving disk give bolts and remove asterisks, having left them in guides of a distributive chain. Pay attention that on asterisks there are ledges which are combined with dredging on the ends of cam-shafts. The distributive chain cannot be removed from a crankshaft asterisk as under an asterisk the guide is located.
13. On B202 engines up to number J082586, remove maslopodayushchy tubes from covers of bearings of cam-shafts; previously make marking of tubes on purpose not to mix them at installation into place.

14. Make sure that on covers of bearings of cam-shafts and on cam-shafts, there are identification adjusting tags. On covers of bearings are stamped figure from "1" to "5", on an inlet cam-shaft and from "6" to "10" on a final cam-shaft — do not mix these tags with cast tags on each cover. The inlet cam-shaft is marked by blue and orange paint, and also the letter "G" on the rotating surface behind a neck of the forward bearing. The final cam-shaft is marked by green paint and has the letter "A" on the rotating surface behind a neck of the forward bearing.

15. In the progressing order unscrew bolts of covers of bearings so that covers were not exposed to the excessive pressure of valvate springs. Completely remove bolts and uncover bearings, then take cam-shafts from a head of cylinders. Pay attention that internal bolts of covers of bearings (except for the end of the shaft turned to a distributive chain) have heads of black color and internal drillings for supply of oil in hydraulic pushers of valves; always check correctness of an arrangement of bolts at installation. Make sure available identification adjusting tags on cam-shafts, if necessary make additional marking.

16. Prepare 16 small pure plastic containers and number them with 1 on 8 with an index I (inlet) and with 1 on 8 with an index E (final). It is alternatively possible to use the big capacity divided into 16 offices marked similarly. By means of a rubber suction (enema) or a magnet take in turn each hydraulic pusher and place it in the corresponding container (office of a container). Do not mix pushers. In order to avoid running off of oil pour in each capacity of pure oil so that it completely hid pushers.

Survey

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Examine bearing surfaces of cam-shafts and cams regarding detection of wear of edges or scratches. In case of detection of such damages replace a cam-shaft. Examine a condition of necks of bearings which are established in a cam-shaft, in covers of bearings of cam-shafts and in the block of a head of cylinders. In case of detection of damage and wear of surfaces of bearings it is necessary to replace a head of cylinders. If at your disposal there is a measuring equipment, then measurement of size of wear of necks of bearings of cam-shafts by direct measurement and comparison of the received size with the values given in Specifications at the beginning of this Chapter can be performed.
2. The longitudinal side play of cam-shafts can be measured by installation of each cam-shaft in a head of cylinders, installation to the place of asterisks of cam-shafts and introduction of an edge of the shchupovy measuring instrument between a coat hanger on the forward end of a cam-shaft and a surface of a perednegopodshipnik in a head of cylinders.
3. Examine surfaces of hydraulic pushers and a mirror of their nests in a head of cylinders, regarding detection of wear, scratches and pointed corrosion. Often during the operation of the engine it is possible to record the excessive noise published by hydraulic pushers, indicating their replacements the need. On the pusher taken from a head of cylinders it is difficult to find mechanical damages; at emergence of any doubts it is necessary to make replacement of all set of hydraulic pushers.
4. Clear internal drillings in hollow bolts of covers of bearings of cam-shafts for ensuring uninterrupted supply of oil to hydraulic pushers.

Installation into place

 INSTALLATION

1. Grease mirrors of nests of hydraulic pushers in a head of cylinders and pushers, then establish pushers on the places.

2. Grease bearing surfaces of cam-shafts of a head of cylinders.
3. Establish cam-shafts in the correct provisions in a head of cylinders so that valves of the first cylinder (the next to a distributive chain) were closed, and valves of the 4th cylinder — were blocked. Distributive tags on the ends of cam-shafts which asterisks are put on have to look up.

4. Grease the surfaces of bearings in covers and dress covers in the initial provisions, insert fixing bolts. Make sure that maslopodayushchy bolts are in the correct provisions. In a progressive order tighten bolts with the required effort.
5. On B202 engines up to N J082586 establish maslopodayushchy tubes on a cover of bearings of cam-shafts in the initial provisions.
6. Make sure that each cam-shaft is in the provision of the top dead point — distributive tags are on the forward ends of cam-shafts and have to coincide with tags on covers of bearings.
7. Make sure that the zero tag of the top dead point on a flywheel / a driving disk still coincides with a distributive tag on the transmission case. On late models make sure that the cut of the top dead point in a pulley of the crankshaft coincides with a tag of a distributive scale on a cover of a distributive chain.
8. Establish on asterisk cam-shafts, at first final, and then inlet. At this stage do not tighten completely fixing bolts. Make sure that the distributive chain correctly settled down in guides and on asterisks.
9. Establish into place a natyazhitel of a distributive chain (address the Section Removal, survey and installation to the place of a distributive chain and asterisks).
10. By means of the face key which is put on a bolt of a pulley of the crankshaft turn the engine on 2 whole revolutions clockwise and again check correctness of coincidence of distributive tags of the top dead points.
11. Completely tighten fixing bolts of asterisks of cam-shafts with the required effort, holding at the same time shaft permanently by means of the wrench which is put on lysk on the back party of shaft.
12. Smooth out contact surfaces of a cover of a head of cylinders and the block of a head of cylinders. On early models install the special split rubber traffic jams in the block of a head of cylinders, then apply a 4-mm pillow of silicone sealant on corners of a head and on rubber traffic jams. On late models establish a rubber ring, in a special flute in a cover of a head of cylinders.
13. Establish a cover of a head of cylinders and insert fixing bolts. Tighten bolts in the progressing order with the required effort, since a bolt on the party of the head of cylinders and the central bolt on the end turned to a distributive chain turned to a flywheel / to a driving disk.
14. Where is available, check coincidence of the runner of the distributor to a distributive tag, then install the distributor and a cover of the distributor according to the instructions provided in the Head Sistemy of start and a charge. Make sure that the vacuum hose is established correctly.
15. Where are available, connect high-voltage wires to spark plugs.
16. Establish into place a viewing cover, or the ignition block in system of direct ignition, in the center of a cover of a head of cylinders and tighten fixing bolts.
17. Connect into place a hose of a sapun of a case.
18. Establish into place a molding of a forward wing and a loker of an arch under the right forward wing, tighten bolts.
19. Establish into place the right forward wheel and lower the car on the earth.
20. Connect a negative wire of the battery.
