14:20. Removal and installation to the place of ABS system components

In a type of complexity of the ABS system and need of application for diagnostics of its malfunctions of the specialized test equipment, the contents of this section are limited to the description of removal and installation to the place of only wheel sensors of the ABS system and the block of the electronic actuation device as in certain cases their removal can be required for ensuring access to other assemblies of the car. The section Components of system of anti-blocking of brakes (ABS) - the general information contains the list of the main checks which can be made for check of integrity of system and for the purpose of simplification of search of obvious malfunctions.

Sensors of wheels

Main data

Till present on the Saab 9000 cars two types of sensors of wheels of the ABS system are applied though both versions are quite close on structure and functioning.

The main difference in types of sensors is the method of their installation and adjustment. The sensors installed on models till 1990 to the issue have two clamps which are built in a sensor casing; a bolt for fastening of the sensor to assembly of a nave of a wheel and the adjusting screw for adjustment of a vystupaniye of a tip of the sensor. On models after 1990 of the issue, the adjusting screw was eliminated as the sensor has a fixed value of a vystupaniye and does not demand adjustment after installation.

Sensors of later type can be rearranged also on cars till 1990 by the issue by transfer of the adjusting screw and the adjusting plug from the old sensor on new. For providing the correct gap at installation of the sensor self-adhesive fibrous laying 0.65 mm thick (which can be acquired in representative office of SAAB) is put on the end of a tip of the sensor, the detailed description of the procedure is given below in this section.

Removal of sensors of forward wheels

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Find contacts of a plait of wires in a motive compartment behind the panel of a false partition. They are contacts of bayonetny type, removed by compression together by fingers and turn of two halves of contact for their division.
2. Where are available, open cable collars of cooling tubes of the air conditioner to pass under them the socket.
3. Weaken fixing bolts and raise the panel of a false partition for providing a transmission of a sensor cable under it and the socket.
4. Make sure that the car is parked on the flat platform, then cock the emergency brake and prop up back wheels. To Poddomkratta a car front, having established it on axial support also remove a forward wheel (wheels) (address Poddomkrachivaniye's Section, towage and change of wheels).
5. Remove back section of a loker of an arch of a wheel (see the Head Body works).
6. Bokorezami have a bite a wire clip, the fixing sensor cable to a basic bracket.
7. Carefully pass a sensor cable with the socket via the sealing plug in a wheel arch.
8. Weaken and take a fixing bolt of the sensor, take a cable from a bracket in the basis of a support of a rack and remove the sensor from assembly of a nave together with the protective plug.

Replacement of sensors of a forward wheel

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Push the sensor in drilling in assembly of a nave, then establish and tighten a fixing bolt.
2. By means of the lezviyny shchupovy measuring instrument inserted between a tip of the sensor and a gear rotor adjust a gap, having brought it into accord with the values given in Specifications. After installation of the correct gap, tighten the adjusting screw.
3. Pass the socket of the sensor and a cable via the sealing plug in a wheel arch, then fix a cable on an adjusting bracket of a rack of a suspension bracket by a new trosikovy collar.
4. Install other components as it should be, the return to an order of their removal.

Removal of sensors of a back wheel (wheels)

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. For ensuring access to cable covers in the panel of a floor put a back seat forward. Remove the right or left cover, depending on what sensor you are going to remove.
2. Disconnect a sensor cable from the electric socket. Pay attention that here the sockets of bayonetny type divided by compression together of finger-type captures and turn of two halves of the socket for their division are used.
3. Make sure that the car is parked on the flat platform, then prop up forward wheels and establish a transmission control lever in the provision of the first transfer (the manual transmission) or the selector lever in situation "P" (automatic transmission). To Poddomkratta a back part of the car, establish it on axial support and remove the right or left back wheel, depending on what sensor you are going to remove. You look Poddomkrachivaniye's Section, towage and change of wheels.
4. Take a sensor cable from a clip and carefully pass the socket via the sealing plug in a wheel arch.
5. Weaken and take a fixing bolt of the sensor, then take the sensor from assembly of a nave.

Installation to the place of sensors of back wheels

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Push the sensor into drilling in assembly of a nave, then establish into place and tighten a fixing bolt.
2. For installation of the required gap insert an edge of the shchupovy measuring instrument between a tip of the sensor and a gear rotor, expose a gap according to the values given in Specifications. After installation of the correct gap, tighten the adjusting screw.
3. Installation of the remained components is made as it should be, the return to a removal order.

Shift of sensors (late type) of back wheels on model till 1990 of the issue.

On cars since 1990 issues are established sensors of wheels and gear rotors of other type. Sensors can be rearranged on model till 1990 by the issue as follows.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Remove the adjusting plug from the old sensor, previously having weakened the adjusting screw.
2. When replacing fiber laying on the old sensor, make sure that all traces of old laying are removed by means of the thin wire brush and rags moistened in suitable solvent. After the tip of the sensor is cleared remove a protective film from the back party of new fiber laying 0.65 mm thick and press laying to a tip.
3. Carefully turn a brake disk a hand and remove with a thin wire brush from a gear rotor traces of dirt and old fiber laying.
4. Insert the sensor into drilling in assembly of a nave and tighten a fixing bolt. Carefully press laying to a surface of a gear rotor and tighten the adjusting screw.

Do not turn a gear rotor until the sensor is not fixed on the place as at the same time it can damage laying that will lead to installation of the wrong gap of the sensor.

Electronic control unit (ECU)

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire of the battery and shift it from the plug aside.
2. The device is installed in a motive compartment behind the panel of a false partition. For ensuring access to it remove the left cover.
3. Open the clips fixing the electronic control unit on the place. Slightly raise the ECU block for ensuring access to the electric socket, then connect the socket, having exempted it from a tightening bracket.

The electronic control unit includes components which are sensitive to the level of the static electricity generated by the person at commission of usual movements by it. After a rassoyedineniye of the electric socket open plugs of the electronic actuation device can incidentally transfer the electric discharge which is saved up in a body of the person to these components that will lead to their damage or even an exit of their system - damage can be imperceptible and immediately not prove. Observance of the following basic rules during the work with the electronic actuation device will help to avoid the subsequent expensive repair:

   a) You hold the disconnected ECU block only for its casing; do not allow a prikasaniye to plugs fingers or tools;

   b) During the work with the ECU block periodically ground yourself through metal objects, such as, unpainted water pipes, touching them - it will help to discharge the static electricity which is saved up in a body;

   c) Do not leave the ECU block disconnected from the electric socket longer, than it is necessary.

Installation into place

Installation of the electronic actuation device is into place carried out as it should be, the return to an order of its removal.

After work with any components of the brake system before starting operation of the car, make its careful check. Make sure that all alarm lamps are disconnected, examine all being removed connections and the diconnected unions regarding detection of leaks, add in the tank brake fluid to the mark "MAX". In conclusion make road check of functioning of the brake system.
