9.1. General information

The models made approximately till 1989 are equipped with system of ignition with Hall's sensor, also on these models the system of injection of BOSCH LH-Jetronic fuel described in the Head Toplivnaya and exhaust systems is installed. System of ignition with Hall's sensor and system of injection of LH-Jetronic fuel function independently from each other.

The models made approximately from 1989 to 1993 (1985 cm 3) or 1992 (2290 cm 3), are equipped with system of direct ignition (DI). This system is run by own electronic actuation device (ECU), however for installation of a corner of an advancing of ignition information from the electronic actuation device of system of injection of Bosch LH-Jetronic fuel is in addition used.

The models made since 1993 (2290 cm 3) or since 1994 (1985 cm 3) till present, are equipped with the system of direct (direct) ignition included in a control system of the Trionic engine of SAAB. In this system the only electronic actuation device (ECU) operates, both system of injection of fuel, and system of ignition. Usually the Trionic system is installed only on the models equipped with system of a turbo-supercharging, however since 1994 it began to be established as well on the models which are not equipped with a turbocompressor. The system of ignition with Hall's sensor is system of electronic ignition and includes the pulse generator (Hall's sensor in the distributor), the switchboard, the coil and spark plugs. The pulse generator working at Hall's effect sends signals to the switchboard which then via key transistors includes a low-voltage contour. The switchboard also makes adjustment and adjustment of duration (on an angle of rotation of a bent shaft) the closed condition of contacts of the breaker.

The certain pulse amplifier of ignition (installed under a ware box) was entered in 1986 for decrease in effect of a radio noise and for ensuring the best control of system.

The centrifugal regulator of an advancing of ignition which serves for automatic installation of a corner of an advancing of ignition depending on engine turns is a part of the distributor. On some models (depending on the country for which the car is issued) the vacuum regulator of double action which makes adjustment of a corner of an advancing of ignition depending on engine loading is also installed on the distributor. The ordinary vacuum regulator of an advancing of ignition makes some advancing of ignition under the facilitated throttle conditions then as on турбомоделях reduction of a corner of an advancing of ignition at inclusion of a turbocompressor is made.

The system of direct ignition uses the separate high-voltage coil of ignition for each candle. The electronic actuation device (ECU) controls operation of the engine on signals from various sensors on the basis of which the system defines the most effective corner of an advancing of ignition.

Components of system are the sensor of provision of crankshafts / turns of the engine, the ignition block with ignition coils for each candle, a diagnostic nest, the electronic actuation device (ECU), pressure sensor in the inlet pipeline (for definition of loading of the engine), the sensor of a detonation and the electromagnetic valve (for adjustment of functioning of a turbocompressor).

At start of the engine turns of the crankshaft lies within 150 rpm, high-voltage spark plugs join in pairs in those cylinders which pistons are in the top dead point. In difficult conditions for simplification of start simultaneous inclusion of all candles is made. The electronic actuation device (ECU) by control of size of current between electrodes of candles defines in what cylinder in each timepoint there is ignition, and then uses this information for definition of an order of ignition.

At engine launch the ignition advancing corner usually is established on 10 °перед by VMT and remains in such situation before set by the engine of 850 rpm. At increase in turns over 850 rpm installation of a corner of an advancing of ignition is regulated by the electronic actuation device.

At switching off of ignition and after an engine stop the main relay remains included within 6 seconds. During this period of time the module of management of the Trionic system makes ignition of 210 more times in 5 seconds for a burning out of the pollution which are formed on electrodes of candles.

As in system high-voltage wires are not used, candles have to include radio suppression (system of suppression of a radio noise) therefore in these systems candles of resistor type are always applied.

For generation of high-voltage spark categories in system of direct ignition the digit method is used capacitor. Condensers accumulate power, having digit voltage about 400 V, at the time of ignition condensers are discharged through primary windings of the corresponding coils. In secondary windings of coils voltage about 40 000 V which arrives on electrodes of spark plugs is induced, causing the spark category.
At emergence of malfunction in system the malfunction code automatically registers in the electronic actuation device. Decoding of record of malfunctions is made in representative office of SAAB with use of the special diagnostic equipment.

Remember that the starter never has to join at the ignition block disconnected from candles, but still attached to a plait of wires. It can lead to irreversible damages to the block.

Automatic control of operational parameters of functioning (APC)
On all models equipped with a turbocompressor the system of automatic control of operational characteristics is installed. A main objective of this device is adjustment of a corner of an advancing of ignition and work of a turbocompressor for the purpose of ensuring maximum efficiency and profitability of operation of the engine irrespective of quality and octane number of the used fuel. System of ignition Trionic

In a control system of the SAAB Trionic engine the systems of direct ignition and automatic control of operational characteristics joint however also enter the electronic actuation device.

In the Trionic system of a spark plug are detonation sensors instead of using the separate sensors of a detonation installed in the block of cylinders.
