6.5. A control system of speed (темпостат) - the description and replacement of components

Tempostat supports the car speed which is previously chosen by the driver without participation of the driver (the leg is taken away from an accelerator pedal). The system is automatically disconnected when pressing a pedal of coupling or a brake or at switching off of the main switch of system. On the models described in this manual two versions systems are installed, each version has the own block of electronic control, but on earlier version for the drive of a rope of a pedal of an accelerator vacuum then as on later versions for movement of the lever of a throttle on the case of a throttle the step engine is used is used.

At emergence of malfunction of system of a tempostat first of all check all corresponding wires for reliability of their fastening. It is better to carry out further inspections in representative office of SAAB having the corresponding diagnostic equipment for bystry finding of malfunction.

Early models

The main components of the system installed on early models is the following:

   a) Electronic control unit:

The electronic ECU device is installed under the forward panel ("Torpedo") on the right side of (models with the right steering) or on the left side of (models with the left steering). The block of the electronic control unit as entrance information uses value of the speed transferred to it by the speed sensor when pressing the SET button (installation). The system does not function at speeds below 40 km/h and higher than 190 km/h.

   b) Speed sensor:

The sensor of speed is located in a back part of an instrument guard. It determines the speed of the car and transmits a signal to control of the vacuum pump for a raising or reduction of vacuum for the purpose of adjustment of speed of the car.

   c) Switch of system of a tempostat:

The main control switch of system is located on the left side of a steering wheel and built in in the switch of indexes of turns.

   d) Vacuum pump and vacuum valve:

The vacuum pump is located in the right part of a partition of a motive compartment. The pump turns on along with inclusion of system of a tempostat, however the size of vacuum is regulated by the vacuum valve. Under certain conditions the vacuum pump stops for the purpose of reduction of vacuum in the vacuum regulator.

   e) Vacuum regulator:

The vacuum regulator is located on a bracket near with an accelerator pedal. The regulator includes a chain with ball hinges which is linked to an accelerator rope in the top part of a pedal of an accelerator. On models with the right steering the pedal of an accelerator is extended in the left foot well of the car and the vacuum regulator is located under the forward panel ("Torpedo") behind a ware box.

   f) Switches of pedals:

Switches are installed on pedals of a brake and coupling with the purpose of shutdown of system when squeezing these pedals. Each switch has double functioning - electric and vacuum. When squeezing both pedals there is a disconnection of an electric contour and a stop of the vacuum pump. At the same time vacuum system is discharged through an internal opening of switches.

Late models

The main components the systems installed on late models include the following:

   a) Module of management:

The module of management includes the electric step motor operating movement of the rope included to the throttle gate lever on a throttle casing. The module obtains information on car speed on a signal of the speedometer which is on an instrument guard. The system stops working at speeds below 33 km/h and higher than 230 km/h. When the system of a tempostat is involved, the electronic ECU actuation device of a control system of the engine receives the corresponding signal of inclusion of system and provides soft speed control of the car.

   b) Switches:

The main control switch of system of a tempostat is installed in the left part of a steering wheel. The duplicating switches are available on pedals of coupling and a brake for the purpose of shutdown of system when squeezing any of these pedals. The switch of system of a tempostat of a brake pedal is grounded through stoplight lamps by means of the main switch of a stoplight - at emergence of malfunction of a contour of a stoplight темпостат does not function.

   c) Index bulb:

The index bulb of the dashboard joins during the work of a tempostat.

Replacement of components - early models

Switch of system of a tempostat

The switch is a part of the block of the switch of indexes of turn. The description of the procedure of removal and installation to the place of see in the Head Sistema of electric equipment.

Speed sensor

Remove an instrument guard (see the Head Sistem of electric equipment), then remove the top section of the panel for ensuring access to the sensor.

Vacuum pump

The pump is located in the right part of a partition of a motive compartment.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect wires.
2. Otsoyedinte vacuum hoses.
3. Then give bolts of a fixing bracket. The pump can be removed from a bracket after a bolt otdavaniye.

Electronic actuation device (ECU)

Remove the lower panel under the forward panel ("Torpedo"). The block of the electronic actuation device (ECU) is installed on the same bracket, as the ABS system module. On models with the right steering the block of the electronic actuation device (ECU) is located on a bracket on the right side of a steering column.

Vacuum regulator

The vacuum regulator is located on a bracket to the left of an accelerator pedal. Access to the regulator is provided by removal of a ware box (model with the right steering) or the lower Torpedo panel (model with the left steering). Be careful - do not damage a rubber casing at removal and installation of the regulator. The chain with ball hinges has to fasten to an accelerator rope a clip in the top part of a pedal of an accelerator so that any easing happened without the movement of a rope.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a vacuum hose (A), then give a fixing nut (B).

2. Remove the vacuum regulator.

Switches of pedals

Switches are located on the same bracket, as the stoplight switch. Access to the switch is provided by removal of the lower Torpedo panel. At installation of switches into place, adjust their situation so that between a persistent part of the switch and a tightening tip there was a gap approximately in 1 mm. Before starting adjustment of position of switches make sure that the pedal is completely released.

Replacement of components - late models

Module of management

The module of management is located under the forward panel ("Torpedo") on models with the right steering on the right, or on models with the left steering behind the battery.

The module of system of a tempostat on late models with the right steering (it is removed from the adjusting bracket)


On models with the right steering remove the module from a bracket and disconnect wires. On models with the left steering at first remove the battery (see the Head Sistemy of start and a charge), then disconnect the plug from the module of management. Give 3 fixing bolts and remove the module from the place, having lifted it so on how many the throttle rope will allow. Open the throttle gate lever, then disconnect a rope from the sector of a throttle and release it from the holder.

Switches of pedals of coupling and brake

Remove the lower panel under "Torpedo". Disconnect from the wire switch, then you vykovyrnit the switch from a pedal bracket by means of the screw-driver.

Remove the top and lower casings of a steering column (see the Head Podvesk and steering), then disconnect the plug. Otboltite also remove the switch.
