6.10. Check, removal and installation to the place of the fuel pump

Before starting this procedure, read the prevention provided in the end the General information and precautionary measures Undressed. On models with a control system of the Trionic engine also the fuel measuring instrument sensor block is a part of the fuel pump; on models with system of injection of LH-Jetronic fuel the fuel pump and the sensor are different blocks (address the Section Removal and installation to the place of the block of the sensor of the measuring instrument of fuel (LH-Jetronic model)).

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. For check of the fuel pump without removal it from the car prepare a measured container by capacity, at least, of 900 cm 3. The pump is located in the fuel tank.
2. In a fuel compartment disconnect the returnable line from the regulator of pressure of fuel and by means of a hose connect the regulator to capacity.
3. According to instructions of the Head Sistem of electric equipment take out from a box safety safety locks No. 14 and 22, then for start of the fuel pump connect a wire 2 plugs. Start the pump exactly for 30 seconds, then stop it. Make sure that the pump pumped up, at least, 900 cm 3.
4. Keep in mind that the most exhaustive check means determination of working pressure of fuel. Such check is made in representative office of SAAB as assumes use of the manometer.

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire of the battery.
2. Remove the back panel of a floor.
3. Then by means of a key of a hexagon uncover via the fuel pump.
4. Remove the holder.
5. Uncover via the pump.

Models with system of injection of LH-Jetronic fuel

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect the plug from the fuel pump, the preliminary pump and the block of the sensor of the measuring instrument of fuel, then shift a cover aside.
2. Weaken connection and disconnect a tube of supply of fuel from the fuel pump. Remove sealing washers.
3. Weaken a collar of a rubber collar of the pump.
4. Take out the pump and the soaking-up tank, then disconnect the fuel line from the tank and pull out wires from the rubber sealing plug in a tank. Take out the pump from the car. Stop up an opening in the top part of the fuel tank.
5. After installation of the pump on a workbench separate from it the soaking-up tank and remove the filter. Remove a sealing ring.
6. Weaken a clip and disconnect the pump from a rubber sealing cuff.
Models with a control system of the Trionic engine
7. Where it is necessary, remove an easy plastic cover from plugs.
8. Disconnect plugs from the top part of the pump, pay attention that the white union is ahead.
9. Disconnect the giving and returnable fuel tubes from the pump.
10. The block fastens the screwing-up ring. The equipment of SAAB for untwisting of this ring usually use the special tool, however for unscrewing of a ring it is also possible to use the big flat-nose pliers (hydraulic type) inserted between cloves in a ring.
11. Unscrew and remove a ring. Pay attention to adjusting arrows on the top part of the pump and a tank.
12. Carefully take out the pump from a gasoline tank.
13. Be careful - do not bend the sensor lever.
14. Remove a sealing ring from a mouth of the fuel tank.

Installation into place

Models with system of injection of LH-Jetronic fuel

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Install the pump in a rubber sealing cuff so that sponges of a cuff appeared approximately in 50 mm over edge of the pump. Tighten a collar.
2. Install into place in the pump the filter, then, having established a new sealing ring, connect the soaking-up tank. Make sure that spuskny the valve is located under 45 ° concerning a tag on a forward surface (as shown in the drawing). Make sure also that the full length of assembly does not exceed the sizes given on the drawing.
3. Insert the fuel pump into the fuel tank so that the tag on a rubber cuff turned out under 45 ° to the right, looking on the car forward. Put on a collar the fuel tank, then establish into place and tighten a collar.
4. Establish into place the giving fuel tube and the union with a cap nut, having replaced sealing washers and having strong tightened it.
5. Connect wires, watching that they were connected correctly.

Models with a control system of the Trionic engine

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Check a condition of a sealing ring, if necessary replace it. Absolutely wipe a mouth of the fuel tank, then establish a sealing ring.
2. Carefully lower the fuel pump in a tank, watching that adjusting shooters were correctly combined with each other.
3. Establish into place and tighten the screw-on ring.
4. Connect the giving and returnable fuel tubes.
5. Connect plugs to the top part of the fuel pump in the former provisions.
6. Establish into place an easy plastic cover.

All models

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Establish into place a cover of the fuel pump and the back panel of a floor.
2. Connect a negative wire of the battery.
