5. Cooling systems, heating

On cars of this system the cooling system of hydraulic type with elevated pressure which is included the water pump set in motion from an auxiliary belt, a cross and line radiator, the electric fan of the cooling system, the thermostat, the heater heat exchanger, and all connecting hoses is used. The broad tank is located in the right part of a motive compartment.

The system functions as follows. The cold cooler which is in the lower part of a radiator on the lower hose gets to the water pump which pumps over it through cooling galleries of the block and a head of cylinders. After cooling of cylinders, the surfaces of combustion chambers and saddles of valves the cooler reaches the lower part of the thermostat which is at first closed. The cooler passes through a heater and comes back via the block of cylinders to the water pump.

When the engine cold, a cooler circulates on a short contour only via the block of cylinders, a head of cylinders, a throttle casing (Trionic system) and a heater. On reaching a cooler of a certain temperature there is an opening of the thermostat and the cooler begins to come on the top hose to a radiator. When passing through a radiator the cooler is cooled with the air stream blown through a radiator at the movement of the car, and also, if necessary, under the influence of the electric fan of the cooling system. On reaching a radiator bottom the cooler is again cooled down and the cycle is repeated.

On reaching the engine of normal working temperature the cooler extends and its surplus comes to a broad tank. The cooler accumulates in a tank and when cooling system comes back to a radiator.

The electric fan of the cooling system is installed behind a radiator and is run by the thermostatic switch. On reaching a cooler of a certain temperature the sensor - the switch turns on the fan.

Do not try to uncover a jellied mouth of a broad tank or to disturb any of parts of the cooling system on the hot engine as there is extremely high risk of a scalding. If it is necessary to uncover a jellied mouth of a broad tank before full cooling of the engine and a radiator, (though it and is not recommended) it is previously necessary to dump pressure in the cooling system. Cover a cover with a piece of thick matter in order to avoid a scalding and slowly give a cover of a jellied mouth before emergence of the hissing sound. After the termination of the hissing indicating alignment of pressure of system with environment pressure slowly begin to turn off a cover; if at the same time again there is a hissing sound, wait for its termination and completely uncover. All the time try to keep as it is possible further from a cover and protect your hands gloves.

Do not allow hit of antifreeze on naked sites of skin or the painted surfaces of the car, in case of hit immediately wash away a plentiful amount of water. Never leave antifreeze, lying around the car in an open container, or do not leave spilled on a floor of its garage. The sweet smell of antifreeze can easily attract to itself pets or children - remember that antifreeze is extremely poisonous at hit in an organism.

In case the engine is hot, the electric fan of the cooling system can be put in action even at the switched-off engine. Be careful - try not to allow contact of your hands, hair or clothes with blades and moving parts of the fan during the work in a motive compartment.

During the work with the car models equipped with the air conditioning system see the preventions provided in the Section Air conditioning system - the general information and precautionary measures.
