4. Repair of the engine
How to use this chapter
This part of the Head includes repair procedures which can be made without extraction of the engine from the car. In case the engine is taken from the car and is subject to dismantling according to instructions of part B of this Chapter, then some preparatory procedures for dismantling of the engine can be lowered.Pay attention that in spite of the fact that it is in certain cases physically possible to make overhaul of some details, such as pistons / rods, without extraction of the engine from the car, after all such procedures are usually made separately. Usually at the same time it is required to make certain additional procedures (not to mention cleaning and lubricant of separate components).
Description of the engine
The car of this model is equipped with the 4-cylinder line engine with 2 cam-shafts (DOHC) located from above, 16-valvate type installed cross in a forward part of the car. Transmission is connected to the left part of the engine. There are 2 versions of the engine of cars of the SAAB 9000 models - of 1985 cm 3 and of 2290 cm 3; later versions of engines of 1985 cm 3 and all 2290 cm3 engines are equipped with balancing shaft in the block of cylinders for vibration reduction. All engines are equipped with system of injection of fuel; on early models the system of injection of Bosch LH-Jetronic fuel, and on models since 1993 is installed by the issue (2290 cm 3) or release since 1994 (1985 cm 3) the system of injection of Trionic fuel made in SAAB is installed. The crankshaft is installed in 5 radical bearings. Control of a longitudinal side play of the crankshaft is exercised by means of the persistent washers installed in the central radical bearing (only in its top half).
Rods rotate on horizontally divided inserts of bearings of the lower heads of a rod. Pistons are attached to rods by means of the floating piston fingers fixed in pistons by means of ring clips. Pistons are manufactured of aluminum alloy and are equipped with 3 piston rings - 2 compression and the 1st oil scraper.
The block of cylinders has a cast design and cylinders are an integral part of the block of cylinders. Inlet and final valves are closed by twisted springs and move in the directing plugs, vpressovanny to a head of cylinders. Saddles of valves also of a vpressovana in a head of cylinders and in case of wear can be replaced separately. 4 valves are the share of each cylinder.
Camshafts are set in motion by a single-row distributive chain and operate the movement of 16 valves through hydraulic pushers. Hydraulic pushers of valves by means of hydraulic cameras and springs support previously established gap between the lower points of raising of cams and the ends of rods of valves. Greasing of pushers is carried out from the general contour of lubricant of the engine.
The balancing shaft (established on later models) are set in motion by a short single-row chain through the asterisk established in a forward part of the crankshaft. The chain of balancing shaft is established outside from the main distributive chain.
The engine is installed on the support of hydraulic type providing good damping.
Lubricant of the engine is carried out by means of the two-rotor oil pump set in motion from the crankshaft and located in a casing of a distributive chain. The reducing valve installed in a cover of a distributive chain limits oil pressure by dumping of excess of oil at high turns of rotation of the engine in the case pallet. From the case pallet oil by means of the oil pump is banished via the filter installed outside, the full-line filter and the oil cooler in oil galleries of the block of cylinders / case. Here oil is distributed and moves to the crankshaft (radical bearings), bearings of cam-shafts and to hydraulic pushers of valves. On the models equipped with system of a turbo-supercharging, oil also arrives for greasing of a turbocompressor. Greasing of bearings of the lower heads of rods is carried out through internal drillings in the crankshaft whereas greasing of raising of cams and valves is carried out by oil spraying, also as well as other components of the engine. On the B202 engine (without balancing shaft) the oil filter is located in a back part of the block of cylinders. On B204/B234 engines (with balancing shaft) the oil filter is located in a forward part of the block of cylinders.
Repair procedures which can be made without extraction of the engine from the car
The following works can be performed without extraction of the engine from the car:a) Measurement of pressure of a compression.
b) Removal and installation to the place of a cover of a head of cylinders.
c) Removal and installation to the place of a cover of a distributive chain.
d) Removal and installation to the place of a distributive chain, a chain of balancing shaft (late models), the directing plugs and natyazhitel.
e) Replacement of epiploons of cam-shafts.
f) Removal, survey and installation to the place of cam-shafts.
g) Removal and installation to the place of a head of cylinders.
h) Decarbonization (removal of a deposit) in a head of cylinders and from pistons.
i) Removal and installation to the place of the case pallet.
j) Removal, capital repairs and installation to the place of the oil pump.
k) Replacement of epiploons of crankshafts.
l) Removal, survey and installation to the place of a flywheel / a driving disk.
m) Survey and replacement of support of engine / transmission.
