16:28. Removal and installation to the place of components of an auxiliary security system (SRS)

General information

Functioning of the SRS system is run by the electronic actuation device (ECU). At turn of the ignition key in situation "Start" or "Drive" the ECU block makes check of functioning of all components of system; at failure detection the electronic actuation device brings the corresponding information tag in memory. Then, the electronic actuation device, gives a signal on shutdown of the alarm lamp established on an instrument guard. The mode of fire of a lamp depends on results of check of functioning of system and can take the following forms:

Cars of 1988-1991 of the issue:

After start of the engine, the electronic actuation device, includes an alarm bulb of the SRS system in the pulse mode, approximately for 6 seconds, for visual check of integrity of a bulb and then dies away. In case in memory of the electronic actuation device record about the malfunction found earlier remained or in case ECU found defect in the course of check of system at record, the alarm bulb of SRS will flash within, about, 10 minutes and then will join in the continuous mode. In case of hit of the car in accident at which SRS system elements are involved the alarm lamp will flash during, about 5 seconds, and then will join in the continuous mode.

Cars after 1991 of the issue:

As an additional precautionary measure, the SRS system is equipped with two bulbs equipped with independent safety locks. After start of the engine if malfunctions are not found, both bulbs of the SRS system join, approximately, for 5 seconds and then die away. In case in memory of ECU the message on the malfunction found before is written down or if malfunction is found in the course of start of the engine, the bulb N 2 joins on continuous burning while the bulb N 1 will blink within, about, 5 minutes and then too will join constantly. In case of hit of the car both bulbs join in accident as a result of which SRS system elements are involved in the constant mode.

In case alarm lamps of the SRS system inform one of the ways given above on the found malfunction, the only correct decision will be to drive away the car in representative office of SAAB for detailed check. The special diagnostic equipment by means of which the nature and location of malfunction at first is defined is connected to the electronic actuation device of the SRS system, and then information tag about malfunction is erased from memory of ECU, in order to avoid fire of alarm lamps at start of the engine after malfunction correction.

For safety reasons, owners of cars strictly are not recommended to try to diagnose malfunctions of the SRS system with use of the ordinary equipment. From above the specified reasons, information which is contained in this section is limited to the description of procedures of removal/installation of those components of the SRS system which removal is necessary for ensuring access to other components of the car.

At work on the cars equipped with pillows of safety/SRS it is necessary to observe additional precautionary measures:

   a) Disconnect a negative wire of the battery and before disconnecting electric wires of any components of the SRS system, wait at least 20 minutes - it time is required for a discharge of the condenser of the internal trigger of the ECU block that is necessary in order to avoid a casual detonation (operation of system).

   b) Do not make attempts to be connected to electric cables of a plait of wires of the SRS system as it can lead to a razladka of functioning of system.

   c) Avoid to work with the heavy hammer or to cause vibrations of a forward part of the car otherwise (in particular in a motive compartment) as it can lead to destruction of sensors and activation of an auxiliary security system (SRS).

   d) You do not perform on components of the SRS system measurements by means of ohmmeters at all or other equipment equipped with the independent power supply - it can lead to a casual detonation (operation of system).

   e) During the work with steering system of the car before disconnecting system from a steering rack, make sure that the steering column is established in situation directly forward as any shift of steering system from this situation, at a rassoyedineniye of a lath and a steering column, can lead to damage of the contact block of a steering wheel (the block of the rotating contact).

   f) Safety cushions (and natyazhitel of seat belts) are classified as the pyrotechnic (explosive) equipment and have to be stored and be operated according to the laws adopted in each country concerning the pyrotechnic equipment.

In general it is not necessary to leave components of these systems disconnected from their electric wires on more, than necessary time - at the same time they become unstable and there is a risk of a casual detonation (operation). Put the disconnected pillow in the place, remote from flammable materials, having its metal bracket down. Never leave the removed pillow unguarded.

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire of the battery and before getting to work, wait within at least 20 minutes.
2. Remove two fixing screws of a safety cushion; access to screws is possible from under a steering wheel behind spokes.
3. Carefully take the safety cushion module from a steering wheel for ensuring access to wires behind the module.
4. Disconnect the cable socket from a back part of a safety cushion.

Installation into place

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Installation of the module of a safety cushion is into place carried out as it should be, the return to a removal order; when tightening fixing screws of a pillow observe the required efforts of tightening of threaded connections.
2. Connect a negative wire of the battery and turn the ignition key in situation "Drive" or "Start". Check a condition of the SRS system according to indications of an alarm lamp.

Removal

The safety cushion module from the passenger settles down in the forward panel ("Torpedo") and fastens four screws and several clips.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire of the battery and before getting to work, wait within at least 20 minutes.
2. Remove plastic covers of fixing screws on the lower part of the forward panel ("Torpedo"), then remove screws.
3. Delay the lower panel from "Torpedo", disconnecting on one clip for once.
4. Disunite the electric socket of wires of the module of a safety cushion.
5. Give four fixing screws of the module of a safety cushion, then in "Torpedo" undertake a back part of the module and carefully take it, at the same time releasing from adjusting clips.

Installation into place

Installation of a safety cushion is into place carried out as it should be, the return to a removal order; at installation of fixing screws of a pillow and the panel of the lower cover, observe the required efforts.

Disconnect a negative wire of the battery, then turn the ignition key in situation "Drive" or "Start". Check a condition of system according to indications of an alarm lamp of the SRS system.

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire of the battery and before starting further actions, wait within at least 20 minutes.
2. Remove the module of a safety cushion of the driver.
3. Remove from an adjusting bracket on a cast ledge of a steering wheel the electric socket of a cable of a horn and disunite it, having marked for simplification of the subsequent assembly of a cable.
4. Establish steering in situation directly forward, then, working according to the instructions provided in the Head Podvesk and steering remove a steering wheel, carrying out sockets of cables through an opening in a cast ledge of a steering wheel.
5. Give fixing screws and remove the top and lower panels of a casing from a steering column.
6. Disunite electric sockets of cables of the block of contact and a horn, previously having cut off the trosikovy collars fixing them to assembly of the lock of ignition / the blocking lock. Mark cables for simplification of the subsequent assembly.
7. Weaken and take fixing screws, then remove the contact block from a steering column. Carefully you watch that two halves of the block of contact did not turn at their separation from a steering column.

Installation into place

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Install the contact block on a steering column, then insert and tighten fixing screws.
2. Connect together electric sockets of a horn and the block of contact, then fix them on assembly of the lock of ignition / the blocking lock a trosikovy collar.
3. Install into place the top and lower panels of a casing of a steering column and tighten fixing screws.
4. Level the contact block in relation to a steering wheel as follows. Make sure that wheels of the car are in situation directly forward. Turn the top section of the block of contact up to the end counterclockwise.

Make sure that the handle of the index of turns is in situation "Is switched off" (OFF), otherwise the dumping mechanism can bring down adjustment accuracy.

When holding this procedure do not apply excessive force; the block of contact comprises fragile components. Now turn the contact block clockwise on speed, specified on a block label (either 2.5, or 3.5 turns) - you watch that at installation of a steering wheel the block remained in this situation.

5. Bring a steering wheel to a steering column and pass electric sockets of cables through an opening in a cast ledge of a wheel. Combine the plug acting from the block of contact with an adjusting opening in a cast ledge of a steering wheel - you watch that the wheel put on perpendicularly and in situation directly forward; now the block of contact can be slightly turned for ensuring introduction of the adjusting plug if it is necessary.
6. Establish a new central nut of a steering wheel and tighten it with the required effort (The head Podvesk and steering).
7. Connect the horn cable socket, then establish a socket casing in the support which is available on a cast ledge of a steering wheel.
8. Establish into place a safety cushion.
9. Connect a negative wire of the battery and turn the ignition key in situation "Drive" or "Start". Check functioning of system according to indications of an alarm lamp of the SRS system.
