15.2. Removal, capital repairs and installation to the place of racks of a forward suspension bracket

In the course of this operation use of the tool for compression of screw springs will be required.


In case of need replacements of the shock-absorber of a rack, shock-absorbers have to be replaced in couple (left and right), for saving characteristics of driving.

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Park the car on the flat platform, cock the emergency brake and prop up back wheels. On the corresponding wheel take off a decorative cap and weaken bolts of fastening of a wheel.
2. Cock the emergency brake, then a poddomkratta a car front, having established it on axial support and remove a wheel (address Poddomkrachivaniye's Section, towage and change of wheels)
3. Establish a cart jack under the lower lever of a suspension bracket and lift it so that it assumed the gross weight of the lever and a rotary fist of the steering mechanism.
4. Release from a clip on the rack case a flexible brake hose, then weaken and take the lower fixing bolts of a rack, having removed an ABS system wheel sensor cable bracket. Council: Temporarily leave one of bolts freely inserted for maintenance of a rack at removal of the top fixing bolts.
5. As it is difficult to give a nut of a rod of the shock-absorber on the rack laid on a workbench, it is recommended to weaken it on a turn floor so far the rack still is on the car. The shock-absorber rod in the course of weakening of a nut has to refrain from rotation - it can be reached by installation on a nut of a rod of the shock-absorber of a 13/16-inch face candle head and insertion in its top part of a six-sided core. Now the face head can be turned by means of a key whereas the rod of the shock-absorber permanently keeps.
6. In a motive compartment disconnect the top part of a rack from a wing by removal of fixing bolts; for simplification of the correct subsequent assembly remember as they were established as there are several fixing openings.
7. For release of a rack from a rotary fist if necessary lower a jack, however you watch to loading a support of the lower lever of a suspension bracket.
8. Remove a rack from a wheel arch.

At this stage weaken a nut only on a turn floor - do not remove it completely.

Capital repairs

Before sorting a rack of a forward suspension bracket, it is previously necessary to squeeze a screw spring by means of the suitable tool. This procedure requires use of the adjustable tool for compression of screw springs. Do not try to sort a rack without such tool as it can lead to damages of components or to injuries.

At assembly the new nut of a rod of the shock-absorber has to be established.

Before removing a fixing nut, make sure that the top cup of a spring is completely exempted from spring pressure.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Fix a rack, having clamped it in a vice; in order to avoid damage of a surface of a rack put on aluminum laying or wooden whetstones sponges of a vice. Avoid twisting of an adjusting bracket.
2. By means of the tool for compression of springs squeeze spring rounds so that pressure was taken off of the top cup.
3. For ensuring access to a fixing nut remove a dustproof cap from the top part of a rack. Holding a shock-absorber rod from rotation by means of the method described in the subsection "Removal" weaken a nut to such an extent that it could be removed by a hand.
4. Take the top basic knot, the top saddle of a spring, the twisted spring which is (still compressed) the lower saddle of a spring, the restrictive buffer of compression and a rubber casing. Carefully weaken and remove the tool for compression of springs.
5. Examine a twisted spring regarding detection of signs of the general wear, destruction or damages. Pay special attention to search of cracks and serious corrosion; at detection of the above-stated signs replace a spring. Check a spring tortsovka, having established it vertically on a flat surface and having put to its rounds parallel to a spring axis a template of a right angle. Admissions Specifications do not make a reservation, however in case of detection of obvious deformation, replace a spring.
6. Remove a dustproof cap and examine shock-absorber section regarding detection of signs of leak of liquid, paying special attention to a piston rod epiploon. Check correctness of functioning of the shock-absorber, two or three times firm pressing having pressed a piston rod until the end of its course, then quickly make several short compression. Smooth resistant resistance has to be felt; if resistance unevenly, is too weak or at the movement of the piston unusual noise is heard, the shock-absorber has to be replaced. Examine a piston rod regarding detection of signs of corrosion or deformation, in case of an unsatisfactory state replace the shock-absorber.
7. Examine the compression course buffer, a rubber casing and saddles of a spring; in case of detection of signs of damage, wear or corrosion replace them. Remember that violation of integrity of the protection cover can lead to hit in the shock-absorber of dirt and, as a result, to its failure.
8. Establish the lower saddle of a spring through a shock-absorber rod on a cup on the rack case.
9. Put on the rubber protection cover through a rod of the piston and establish it into place; the bottom edge of a casing has to be in 12 mm over a surface of the lower cup of a spring. Rotate a casing for combination of the tag made at its bottom edge with the lower adjusting bracket of a rack.
10. Put on a dustproof cap the top part of the shock-absorber.
11. Squeeze spring rounds by means of the tool for compression of springs. Establish a spring on the lower plate, having rotated it for combination of the end of a round with a ledge in the lower saddle. Make sure that compression of a spring is enough to establish the top clamps.
12. Bend the top sponges of the protection cover at the top of a spring.
13. Install the compression course buffer on a shock-absorber rod.
14. Establish into place the top saddle of a spring, having combined a notch at its edge with a tag at bottom edge of the protection cover and the lower adjusting bracket of a rack.
15. Establish the top basic knot and a new nut of a rod of the shock-absorber. Having used the method described in the subsection "Removal" partially tighten a fixing nut.

It is recommended to make tightening of a nut with final effort after installation of a rack to the car as it is quite difficult to make it on a workbench. Before removing the tool for compression of springs, make sure that assembly tags are still combined.

Installation into place

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Insert assembly of a rack into an arch of a wheel and pass its top part through an adjusting opening in a mudguard.
2. Combine three fixing openings in the top part of a rack with openings on a mudguard, act according to the notes made in the course of removal. Establish fixing bolts and tighten them at this stage only by hand.
3. Working according to the method described in the subsection "Removal", having used a face head and a six-sided core, tighten a shock-absorber rod nut with the required effort.
4. Combine fixing openings in the rack basis with openings on a rotary fist of the steering mechanism; if necessary raise a jack, then establish fixing bolts. On the cars equipped with the ABS system do not forget to establish on top of two fixing bolts a wheel sensor cable bracket. Tighten bolts with the required effort.
5. Insert a flexible brake hose into a clip in the rack case basis.
6. Tighten three top fixing bolts of a rack with the required effort.
7. Establish into place a wheel, lower the car on the earth and tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel with the required effort.
