14.6. Removal, capital repairs and installation to the place of a back brake support

Before work check the preventions given at the beginning of the Sections Pumping of the Brake System and Replacement of Front Brake Shoes concerning safety during the work with components and liquids of the brake system.

Park the car on the firm flat platform, prop up forward wheels and establish a transmission control lever in the provision of the first transfer (for the manual transmission) or the selector lever (automatic transmission) in situation "P". You do not cock the emergency brake. A back part of the car also establish to Poddomkratta it on axial support, remove the corresponding back wheel for the purpose of ensuring access to the support requiring attention. Follow at the same time the instructions provided in Poddomkrachivaniye's Section, towage and change of wheels.

For removal of a support it is necessary to disconnect from it a brake hose - thus inevitably there will be a certain loss of liquid. Minimization of loss can be provided by a perezhimaniye of a flexible brake hose by means of a patent hose clip. Clips are designed for a perezhimaniye of hoses without breaking off of their walls and can be acquired in shops of automobile accessories.

Use of a clamp with the unprotected sponges as it can lead to damage of a hose and failure of the brake system is not allowed.



1. Wipe with pure rags a support surface around hose connection. Weaken hose connection, however do not unscrew it at this stage completely as it will lead to twisting of a hose.
2. Remove brake shoes (Section Replacement of Brake Shoes of Back Brakes).
3. Install the patent device for a perezhimaniye of hoses on a hose and tighten it. Holding one hand a hose permanently, other hand rotate the hydraulic case until hose connection is not screwed together from the union. For collecting the spilled hydraulic liquid prepare the small capacity and pure rags. If the stream of liquid does not stop, check reliability of installation and fastening of a hose clip.
4. Absolutely wipe the end of a brake hose and the union on the hydraulic case, then establish on them dustproof caps.

In a case impossibility to use caps, cut off fingers from a rubber glove and pull them for the end of a brake tube and the union, having fixed by means of a rubber tape.

5. Weaken and remove fixing bolts, then lower an arm, having removed it from assembly of a nave.

Capital repairs

The main condition when dismantling the brake system is careful respect for purity. Hit in hydraulic system of dirt adversely influences efficiency of functioning of system and can lead to an exit it out of operation. Work should be carried out in the pure place in which nobody can disturb you; nakryvany a working surface the clean sheet of paper or a cardboard will help to preserve components in purity and it is easy to find the detail demanded at present.

Observe precaution - do not inhale the cleaned-off dust.


1. By means of a brush clean off all traces of dirt and dust from the surface of the hydraulic case.
2. Install the hydraulic case on a working surface. By means of the stupid screw-driver remove from the directing fingers pro-masonry plugs together with dustproof caps. You watch to scratching the internal surfaces of pro-masonry plugs.
3. Remove a returnable spring of the lever of the emergency brake from an axis and shift it aside.
4. Take a fixing ring of a boot; in order to avoid damage of the piston use the plastic tool or the small screw-driver with the sting which is wrapped up by an insulating tape. Remove a boot from the piston.
5. For extraction of the piston from the cylinder by means of a 4-mm hexagon rotate the adjusting screw clockwise. Perhaps at the same time it will be required to remove a dustproof cap from the union for providing an air outlet from the cylinder.
6. The plastic tool take a piston cuff, watching at the same time to scratching a cylinder mirror.
7. Carefully clear components, having used at the same time methyl or isopropyl alcohol or pure hydraulic liquid. Do not apply solvents on a mineral basis at all, such as gasoline and kerosene as they are aggressive in relation to rubber components of system.
8. Right after cleaning dry components, having used compressed air or pure неворсящейся rags. Compressed air blow liquid channels. If you are not going to begin immediately assembly do not forget to install a dustproof cap on the union of a brake hose.
9. Carefully examine components and at detection of signs of wear or damages immediately replace them. Pay special attention to a mirror of the cylinder and the piston; at detection on them of scratches or signs of wear or corrosion replace all assembly of the hydraulic case. Check also a condition of the directing fingers and their nests in the hydraulic case; both fingers have to be not damaged and not have corrosion signs. After cleaning fingers have to move rather hardly in nests, but without jamming. If there was a jamming of a support, then fingers can be bent owing to an overheat - check fingers for curvature, having taken for a drive them on a flat surface. The components which are able which are available any doubts, are subject to replacement.
10. If assembly is subject to further use, prepare the corresponding repair set; components can be acquired in representative office of Saab in various combinations.
11. Needless to say, replace all rubber consolidations which were removed when dismantling, dustproof caps and covers; details such are not subject to reuse.
12. Before starting assembly make sure that all components are absolutely pure and dry.
13. Grease a new cuff of the piston and a boot with the lubricant which is available as a part of repair set.
14. Install in a saddle in the cylinder a new cuff of the piston - do not use at the same time any tools.
15. Put on a new boot the piston; put on it through the end of the piston pressing a brake shoe then pull together it down on other end of the piston.
16. Push the piston into a nest of the cylinder and completely insert it into place rotation of the adjusting screw counterclockwise by means of a 4-mm hexagon.
17. Pull a boot skirt on edge of the cylinder. Before putting on a fixing ring, make sure that the skirt densely sits at edge.
18. Put on the place on an axis a returnable spring of the lever of the emergency brake. Make sure that one end of a spring is hooked for the lever, and another is hooked for a cast ledge.
19. Install into place two rubber plugs and pro-masonry plugs of the directing fingers.

Installation into place


1. Establish into place on assembly in a nave an arm - grease carvings of fixing bolts with a compound for fixing of carvings, then insert and tighten bolts with the required effort.
2. Connect the hydraulic case to a brake hose by a vvinchivaniye of hose connection in the union (after removal of a dustproof cap), hold a hose permanently and rotate the hydraulic case for screwing up. Do not delay connection completely at this stage.
3. Working according to the instructions provided in the Section Replacement of Brake Shoes of Back Brakes, establish into place brake shoes and connect a rope of the emergency brake. Do not establish a wheel at this stage.
4. Strong delay nipple connection of a brake hose. Remove a patent hose clip from a hose. According to the instructions provided in the Section Pumping of the Brake System pump over system for the purpose of removal from it of the air which got to a brake hose at a support detachment. If in the course of removal precautionary measures on minimization of leak of liquid were observed, there will be only a support given to pump over enough.
5. Make adjustment of the emergency brake (The head Routine maintenance).
6. Establish into place a wheel, lower the car on the earth and tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel with the required effort.
