14.5. Removal, capital repairs and installation to the place of a forward brake support

Watch the preventions given at the beginning of the Sections Pumping of the Brake System and Replacement of Front Brake Shoes , concerning work with components and liquids of the brake system.

Park the car on the firm and flat platform, then prop up back wheels and cock the emergency brake. To Poddomkratta a car front, establish it on axial support and remove the corresponding forward wheel for ensuring access to the required support (address Poddomkrachivaniye's Section, towage and change of wheels).

For removal of a brake support the brake hose has to be disconnected from it - it will lead to some losses of brake fluid. Losses can be minimized by a perezhimaniye of a flexible brake hose by a special hose clip. The clip presses a hose without flattening of its walls which can lead to hose material damages - such clips can be acquired in shops of automobile accessories. Prevention: Use of clamps with the unprotected sponges as it can lead to damage of hoses and failure of the brake system is not allowed.



1. Pure rags clear a support surface around hose connection. Weaken a nut of hose connection, however do not screw together it completely at this stage as it will lead to twisting of a hose.
2. Remove brake shoes (Section Replacement of Front Brake Shoes).
3. On the models equipped with Girling supports (address Specifications), remove a boot and unscrew a bolt of the top directing finger by means of a face or usual key. Now the hydraulic case can be removed from an arm.
4. Now the hydraulic case can be disconnected from a brake hose; holding a hose from rotation rotate the hydraulic case until the nut of nipple connection is not screwed together from the union. Prepare for certain losses of brake fluid - have near at hand the small capacity and pure rags for collecting liquid. If the stream of liquid does not stop, check reliability of installation and fastening of a hose clip.
5. Absolutely wipe the end of a brake hose and the union in the hydraulic case, then put on them boots.

If boots are not available, cut off fingers from a rubber glove and pull them on the open ends of a brake tube and the union, having fixed by means of a rubber tape.

6. Weaken and remove fixing bolts, then lower an arm, having removed it from a rotary fist of the steering mechanism.

Capital repairs

Be careful, do not inhale the dust which is cleaned off from the surface of the hydraulic case.


1. One of the main conditions when dismantling the brake system is careful respect for purity. Hit in hydraulic system of dirt can adversely affect efficiency of operation of the brake system, and also lead to its breakdown. Work should be performed in the pure place where nobody can prevent you. Nakryvaniye of a working surface the sheet of white paper or a cardboard will help the maintenance of components with purity, and also will simplify search of a detail necessary at present.
2. By means of a brush remove all traces of dirt and dust from the surface of the hydraulic case.
3. The piston can be taken from the cylinder by a supply of compressed air to the union of a hydraulic hose. The required pressure is insignificant therefore the bicycle pump can be for this purpose used. Remove a boot and connect the pump to the union of the hydraulic case - good sealing will be provided by a piece of a vacuum or fuel hose - do not try to use something that can damage a female thread of the union. For protection of a face surface going out under pressure of the piston cylinder as laying use wooden whetstone.
4. Carefully take a boot from a cylinder nest, having left it attached to the piston - use for this purpose plastic devices which cannot damage a cylinder mirror surface. Put the piston with a boot aside.
5. By means of the same plastic tool take from a saddle in a cylinder nest a piston cuff. You watch at the same time to scratching a mirror of the cylinder or a saddle of a cuff.
6. Carefully clear all components, having used for this purpose only methyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol or pure hydraulic liquid. Do not apply solvents on a mineral basis at all, such as gasoline or kerosene as they are aggressive in relation to rubber components of hydraulic system. Right after cleaning immediately dry components, using for this purpose compressed air or pure неворсящуюся rags. Compressed air blow liquid channels. If the return assembly immediately is not made, do not forget to dress a cap on nipple connection of a brake hose.
7. Carefully examine all components and at detection of signs of wear or damages, replace them. Pay special attention to a mirror of the cylinder and the piston; at detection they have to be replaced with their surfaces of scratches, signs of wear or corrosion (means that assembly of the hydraulic case is subject to replacement completely). Also check a condition of the directing fingers and their nests in the hydraulic case; on fingers there should not be signs of damages or corrosion. After cleaning fingers have to enter quite hardly the nests, but without jamming. At emergence of any doubts in the relation of a condition of components, replace them.
8. If assembly is subject to further use prepare the corresponding repair set; components can be acquired in representative office of SAAB in various combinations.
9. Needless to say, replace all rubber consolidations which were removed when dismantling, boots and caps; old components such are not subject to reuse at all.
10. Before assembly make sure that all components are absolutely pure and dry.
11. Grease with the lubricant which is available in repair set a new cuff of the piston. Grease with the same lubricant a new boot.
12. Install on the place in the cylinder a new cuff of the piston; do not use for this purpose any tools.
13. Install a new boot on the piston; put on a boot that end of the piston which nestles on a brake shoe, then pull together it on the opposite end of the piston.
14. Apply the piston to a nest of the cylinder laid on the working surface of the hydraulic case. Since bottom edge insert a boot collar into a cylinder nest, further circle until the collar is not completely strongly sitting in the cylinder.
15. Now the piston can be inserted into the cylinder - watch that the piston entered correctly in relation to a new cuff. Pay attention that in the course of this procedure removal of a dustproof cap from the union of a brake hose for production of the air which is going out of the cylinder can be required.

Installation into place


1. Connect the hydraulic case to a brake hose, screwing in hose connection in the union; hold at the same time a hose permanently, navorachivy on it the hydraulic case. Do not delay completely at this stage nipple connection.
2. Establish an arm into place on a rotary fist - grease carvings of fixing bolts with a compound for fixing of carvings.
3.atem insert bolts and tighten them with the required effort. On the models equipped with Girling supports install the hydraulic case on an arm and establish into place a bolt of the top directing finger, having strong tightened it.

4. For all supports, working in the order described in the Section Replacement of Front Brake Shoes, establish into place brake shoes, however at this stage do not establish a wheel so far.
5. After installation to the place of brake shoes completely delay connections of a brake tube.
6. Remove a clip from a brake tube. Working according to the procedures described in the Section Pumping of the Brake System pump over system for removal from it of the air which got to a brake hose at removal of a support. In case of observance of all precautionary measures for minimization of leak of liquid there will be only a support given to pump over enough.
7. Establish into place a wheel, lower the car on the earth and tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel with the required effort.
