14.4. Replacement of brake shoes of back brakes

Before work read the prevention given at the beginning of the Section Replacement of Front Brake Shoes.

As manual and foot brakes are self-regulating, an opportunity to determine wear of brake shoes by the size of the course of a pedal or the lever is absent - visual survey has to be made (address the Head Routine maintenance).


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Park the car on the firm flat platform, prop up forward wheels, establish a control lever by the transmission in the provision of the first transfer (the manual transmission) or the selector lever in situation "P" (automatic transmission) - you do not cock the emergency brake. A back part of the car also establish to Poddomkratta it on axial support, then remove both back wheels (address Poddomkrachivaniye's Section, towage and change of wheels)
2. On the first support take from drilling in the adjusting screw on the hydraulic case a dustproof stopper.
3. By means of a hexagon turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise until the end of its course - at the same time the piston completely will go to the hydraulic case, having wrung out thereby a brake shoe from a disk.
4. Take out two boots.
5. Then by means of a 7-mm six-sided core and a replaceable face head weaken the directing support fingers.
6. Take the directing support fingers.
7. By means of the screw-driver take a fixing spring clip from a support.
8. Remove the hydraulic case from an arm, then weaken a spring tension on the lever of the emergency brake and exempt from it a rope.
9. Take brake shoes from the hydraulic case. Pay attention that the internal block has to be taken out from the piston in which it is kept by the antivizgovy spring attached to a back wall of a metal substrate of a block.
10. Suspend the hydraulic case on the rigid site of a suspension bracket of the car by means of a rope or a piece of a wire.
11. Do not suspend the case on brake hoses as it undoubtedly will damage hoses.
12. Similarly remove blocks from other support.
13. Examine support piston cuffs regarding detection of signs of leaks or damage, also piston regarding detection of signs of wear or damages. Remove brake dust from the surfaces of the hydraulic case and an arm, having used for this purpose a brush and the specialized cleaning liquid for components of the brake system. Avoid inhalation of the brake dust which is contained in air, use a respirator.
14. After removal of the hydraulic case make sure that the directing fingers freely slide in the nests, however without excessive side play.
15. Measure thickness of the frictional slips which remained on each block. If any of slips it is worn-out below an admissible limit (address Specifications), then all set of blocks has to be replaced (for both driving wheels). Similarly, at detection of pollution any of blocks all set of blocks has to be replaced with oil or lubricant. In case of detection of pollution of blocks before establishing new blocks it is necessary to find and remove the pollution cause.
16. In case all blocks are in working order, carefully clear them by means of a brush (ideally a thin metal brush) and the specialized cleaning liquid for components of the brake system. Pay special attention to a metal substrate where the block contacts to the arm / piston. Examine a surface of frictional slips, carefully take from them the eaten foreign particles. Clean flutes if they are killed.
17. It is useful to examine at the same time at survey and replacement of brake shoes a condition of brake disks (address the Section Survey, removal and installation to the place of a forward brake disk).
18. Apply a small amount of the brake lubricant containing copper on a back wall of a metal substrate of each block; do not allow hit of lubricant on frictional slips.
19. Install blocks in the hydraulic case, having inserted an antivizgovy spring of internal laying in the hollow piston. Install the hydraulic case on an arm.
20. Grease the directing fingers with the anti-taking lubricant and establish them into place. Tighten fingers by means of a 7-mm six-sided core, then establish into place boots.
21. Establish into place a spring clip, having inserted it into an opening on the hydraulic case.
22. By means of a key hexagon screw up the adjusting screw so that the internal brake shoe almost concerned a brake disk.
23. Connect into place a rope of the emergency brake, then make adjustment of operation of the emergency brake (address the Head Routine maintenance).
24. Several times press a brake pedal; at the same time pressure in system will rise that will bring blocks into contact with disks. At emergence of feeling of softness in a pedal it is necessary to assume that at removal of brake shoes air got to system - pump over system (address the Section Pumping of the Brake System).
25. Establish to the place of a wheel, lower the car on the earth and tighten bolts of fastening of wheels with the required effort.
26. Add fresh liquid in the tank of brake fluid so that its level rose to a mark at most, establish into place a cover.
