10.4. Removal and installation to the place of coupling assembly


The dust formed in system of coupling at wear of a clutch plate may contain asbestos which is extremely unhealthy. Do not blow dust compressed air and do not inhale it. Do not apply solvents on the basis of gasoline to purification of dust. The special cleaner of the brake system or methyl alcohol is for this purpose applied. After rubbing absolutely of coupling components dry rags postpone the used rags and merge the used cleaner in the marked sealed container.

In spite of the fact that some frictional materials do not contain asbestos now, it is safer to assume that asbestos always contains in them.

In case removal of the block of engine / transmission is not made for carrying out the general capital repairs (see the Head Remont of the engine), access to coupling can be provided by removal of transmission (The head the Manual transmission). -

Before starting removal any of coupling components, previously put down tags of a relative positioning between a coupling basket, the conducted disk and a flywheel.

For simplification of removal of a basket of coupling it is necessary to block a flywheel by a pribolchivaniye of the blocking tool to one of openings of fastening of transmission, having inserted other end of the tool into a gear wreath of a flywheel. In case there is no opportunity to use the universal tool to blocking of a flywheel, the crankshaft (and, therefore, and a flywheel) can be withheld permanently by means of the face key which is put on a crankshaft asterisk bolt. At the same time the help of the assistant is required.


1. Working in a diagonal order, gradually give fixing screws half way for one approach until unscrewing appears their hand possible.
2. Lift a coupling basket, then take out the conducted disk, having remembered for themselves its orientation.


As removal and installation to the place of components of coupling takes away rather large number of time and forces, simultaneous replacement when dismantling coupling of frictional slips, baskets with a press disk and the release bearing at the same time, even if only one of the listed components is excessively worn-out will be the quite good idea.

When cleaning components of coupling in order to avoid the troubles connected with work with frictional materials attentively read the prevention given at the beginning of this Section; remove dust by means of pure dry rags, working at the same time in well ventilated room.


1. Examine surfaces of the conducted disk regarding detection of wear, damage or pollution. If on frictional material there are cracks, progara, scratches or damages if there is a strong pollution of a surface of a disk lubricant (it is shown in the form of brilliant black spots), then the frictional disk has to be replaced.
2. In case frictional material is still suitable for the use, check whether vents of the central nave are worn-out, whether in a good state the damping springs whether reliably they are fixed and whether all rivets are reliably fixed. In case of detection of any damages or signs of wear the frictional disk has to be replaced.
3. In case of detection of pollution of frictional material oil it is necessary to check whether there are no leakages of a back epiploon of the crankshaft, leaks from the line of connection of the pallet of a case with the block of cylinders or through the leading shaft of transmission; if necessary before installation of a new frictional disk make repair of an epiploon or connections according to the instructions provided in the Head Remont of the engine.
4. Examine a basket with a press disk regarding detection of signs of wear or damages; shake assembly with the purpose to check whether there is no wear or damages of basic rings, and also check whether there are no signs of an overheat of fixture of the leading strips (a press disk to a basket) (it is shown in the form of spots of dark yellow or blue color). In case of wear or damage of springs of a diaphragm or if there is a suspicion on its insufficient clip, the basket with a press disk has to be replaced.
5. Examine frictional surfaces of a press disk and a flywheel; Surfaces have to be pure, absolutely flat and not have on themselves scratches. In case of detection on surfaces of traces of an overheat or cracks they have to be replaced though insignificant damages such can be sometimes removed by means of an emery paper.
6. Check that the contact surface of the release bearing rotated smoothly and easily without signs of a roughness and silently, check whether there are no signs of wear or a roughness on the surface, whether there are no cracks on it, pointed corrosion or deep it is erose. In the presence of any doubts in a condition of a surface of the bearing the bearing has to be replaced (The section Removal, survey and installation to the place of coupling squeezing mechanisms).

Installation into place

At assembly make sure that the interfaced surfaces of a flywheel and a basket of coupling are absolutely pure, smooth and not polluted by oil or lubricant. For removal of protective lubricant from new components use solvent.


1. Bring the conducted disk so that assembly of a spring nave was turned from a flywheel aside; examine a disk regarding detection of any tags made by the manufacturer for the purpose of the correct installation of a disk.
2. Install on a flywheel a basket with a press disk, having put on it adjusting pins; in case of installation of an old disk combine the tags made when dismantling. Insert fixing screws of a basket of coupling, tighten them at this stage by hand so that the frictional disk could rotate slightly for the purpose of its alignment if necessary.
3. The conducted disk has to be centered in a basket so that at installation of transmission the leading shaft passed through a shlitsevy opening in the center of the conducted disk. It can be reached, having passed the big screw-driver or the extender of a face key through the conducted disk, having inserted it into an opening in the crankshaft; the conducted disk can be moved now until it is not centered concerning a crankshaft opening. Alternatively, the universal tool for coupling centering can be used; the tool can be bought practically in any shop of automobile accessories. The similar tool can be manufactured of the piece of the metal core or a wooden bar processed on the end for a cone or which is densely inserted into an opening in the crankshaft. For ensuring coincidence of diameter of the tool with an internal diameter of a shlitsevy opening of the conducted disk the core can be wound with an insulating tape. Before continuing the procedure of installation further, make sure that the conducted disk correctly отцентрован.
4. After a frictional disk отцентрован, in the progressing order tighten basket bolts, working in a diagonal order and tightening them with the required effort.
5. If established, remove the blocking tool of a flywheel.
6. Apply on vents of an opening of a frictional disk and a main shaft of the transmission a little lubricant having high temperature of melting.
7. Establish into place transmission (The head the Manual transmission).
